cant vote ,doesnt go low enough.We are 4 and put 2 out every three to four weeks.

brilliant Culpepper! Wins the game really.

We are 4 ( 2 adults and 2 children) we have a metal dustbin, which I guess is about a bin bags worth plus one other bin bag once a week. I guess I can do better then. It must depend on your shopping habits.

That's really impressive Culpepper.

Do you have time to do us an article on how we could all head in that direction? Is it because you buy so little packaged stuff or recycle so much, or both?

I put myself down as a quarter, but it's really about half a carrier-bag a week - and if I had room for a decent compost heap it'd be even less.

Paper goes in a bin to be collected by bin-men.
Glass, plastic and metal into a box for the same.
Cardboard goes into an old bin to be taken to the tip every couple of months.

We need a none option. I don't use bin bags, just wash the bin weekly. Cans and plastic and glass go to recycling bin, cardboard in the compost heap.

Mind readers

It is bin day today and I was thinking of posting this same topic.

Anyway I think I must be a sinner as I put out 1 bin bag every two-three weeks and only have a houshold of two. If I think back to days gone by I used to put out 2 a week for a houshold of 2 so improving me thinks

Bath is pretty good for recycling and I can recycle clothes, tin foil, car batteries, plastic bottles and the usual things. I think this question really does depend on your ability to recycle. Most of us do it ourselves on here I am sure, but is there a council out there that takes compost?

Blackburn with Darwen takes 'green waste', although not from my back garden as they don't seem to want to give me a green bin.

I recycle as much as I can but still sadly my bins are overflowing by the end of the week I do compost,bottles etc must be because I'm trying to declutter..

Sorry, I'm being a bit dim today!
I thought that most councils now take green waste. You might have to take it to the tip yourself. Certainly our council doesn't do the green bin thing, but there is a huge skip for green waste at the collection point.

Since we started composting and got our green bin it's dropped massively but still about 3/4 to 1 bag a week and I do try, so I'm impressed with your efforts.

However most of the problems is due to lack of space. I've no garden so no onsite composting, it has to go in a conventional bin and then be hauled up to the allotment periodically. The green bin is only emptied once a month but usually filled in two weeks and I've got limited space to store stuff for trips to the tip/recycling centre even if I can get there when it's open (though this will improve by July). In the meantime I've acquired a second green bin which is helping. Although the limited space I have is now full of bins and threatens my plans for a lean to minigreenhouse.

Shame on you! Get on a reusable anppy scheme - no more hassle than disposables and no more cost. Although the bin can hum a bit by the end of the week. Ours is £7 a week.
